Club Juniors
Three of our club juniors competed at the Capricornia Tennis Trial in Emerald on Wednesday with the hope of representing Capricornia in Brisbane next month at the state championships.
This was for 13-19 yr old boys and girls, club members Ashton Moore, Mikuni Park and Kaylee Davidson competed and by all reports performed well, Kaylee just missing out on a place in the team. These players will all have many more chances to get a spot on the team in future years as they are still young and competing against much older opponents.
It was great experience for them and their dedication can't be questioned as some were catching team buses at 3:30am (no wonder they weren't at fixtures tuesday night)just to get out there to play! A shout to their parents also for supporting their children on their tennis journey.
Well done all round!
John Wilczek

Dear Members,
It is with a heavy heart that we advise you of the passing of two Life Members.
Ron Graham and Richard Irons passed away last week within days of each other.
Both these members had been instrumental in bringing the club to where it is today.
They had been involved in the club for many years going as far back to its first existence in 1949.
They were both involved in the move to the current location and the build of this premise.
They will both be greatly missed and we acknowledge and thank them for their contribution to the Club.
For all members information:
Ron Graham's funeral is a private event and a wake will be held at the Sailing Club for all to attend at 2pm on Thursday 18th August 2022. Many of our club members will be attending the wake.
Richard Irons Funeral will be held on Friday 19th August at 10am at the Uniting Church near the Bowls Club. Again many of our members will be attending and wearing the club shirt (optional).

Victory for Yeppoon Tennis Club!
Victory for Yeppoon Tennis Club at the Pineapple Cup 2022.
On Sunday 19th June Yeppoon Tennis Club hosted the annual Pineapple Cup against Cressy Tennis Club (Rockhampton).
This Tennis Tournament first started back in 2011. Yeppoon Tennis Club won the trophy for the first two years but since then it has been a lean run with our only other victory taking place back in 2017.
With a lot of our best players committing to playing and plenty of club spirit we set out to try and bring the trophy home. The day saw 32 players battle it out with many close competitive matches, some amazing shots and lots of laughs along the way. A great day was had by all, and it was great to see so many friends and families there to support the players and enjoy the day. After the presentation a BBQ lunch was served with some cold drinks to wash it down. This was a great opportunity to catch up, have a yarn with the Cressy Club members and get to know the new members and families.
Great results on the day for our club with Yeppoon taking home the Pineapple Cup with a combined score of 118-74 and wins in both the A & B grades!!
A Grade - Results Yeppoon won the A Grade event 55-41 games. With Hayden Sparks & John Wilczek winning 3 from 3.
B Grade - Results Yeppoon also won the B Grade with an impressive 63-33 games. With Mark Slater winning all 3 of his matches.
The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the Cressy Club for coming down and playing, Warren and Gordon for helping organize things on their end and our great volunteers. A big shout out must go to Gail, Nobuko, Karen, Sharon and Julie (great cooking) for all their help on and before the day, it's very much appreciated.
Well done Yeppoon Tennis Club - Pineapple Cup Winners!!!
The cup is sitting proudly back in our clubs trophy cabinet.
Cheers John Wilczek
Junior Development Series
On the weekend 60 Junior Tennis Players travelled from all around Central Queensland to compete in the Junior Development Series (JDS) playing singles, girls doubles & boys doubles in their age group. Our Club was well represented with almost 20 Club Junior players competing with some very good results. Sebastien Hatte was a winner in both his singles and doubles event and Jonte Beasley and Samuel Janes had a win in the boys doubles with a lot of great runner-up results from the rest of the Club’s Juniors.
This series is played all around Queensland to help develop our juniors by exposing them to tournament play. The series was first established 40 years ago in Central Queensland and is now being played all around the state with the finals to be played in Rockhampton later this year.
The club also ran an Orange Ball mini tournament during the day which was a big hit with the youngsters.
June in Yeppoon – Pickleball Meetup
It was a huge weekend for Pickleball during our Meetup with players travelling from the Sunshine Coast, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Rockhampton and the Yeppoon crew.
Over 50 Players came to the Friday night social and a round robin format on Saturday with playoffs in the afternoon. It was a great opportunity for players to socialise and play against players from other clubs. It was a fantastic weekend!
A big shout out to Danny and Romy Papo from the Sunshine Coast who initiated this meetup and ran the round robin format. Saturday night most players met up for dinner at the Tavern and Danny ran a game of Trivia to end the night. We are already making plans for another meet up in September.
Also recently five of our players competed for the first time in a tournament held at Mooloolaba at the Sunshine Coast. Sharon Ireson, Kel Rasmussen, David Lapere, Adrian Gray and Oli Gray achieved some very pleasing results. Sharon Ireson played off for Bronze in the over 50’s Singles and Oli Gray our 16-year-old junior did exceptionally well in the singles beating several highly ranked older players getting into the playoffs.
Great result for our Yeppoon Juniors at the Rockhampton Primary Schools Team Trials!
Congratulations to Noah Marshall, Ashton Moore, Sebastian Hatte, Gabby Telfer, Libby Nye, Brontë Brown & Hannah Hooper (reserve) who have made the selections to play in Mackay for the Capricorn Team Trials.
Well done to all Yeppoon players and good luck in Mackay on the 6th of June (Capricornia Team trials )
Congratulations to our Juniors who recently competed in a Junior Tournament.
Mikuni Park and Zaya Hayward were runners up in the under 13 Girls Doubles.
Sebastian Hatte won the under 11 Boys Doubles.
Rhys Hayward was runner up in the under 15 Girls Doubles.
Well done!

What a great night!!!
We were very fortunate to have Rob Barty visit our club on Monday evening to share the Ash Barty Story followed by a Q&A. The participation & interest by both parents, junior players and club members was very refreshing. We had Win News there to cover the story which was broadcasted Wednesday night. Video of coverage in comment section.
The free sausage sizzle was supplied on the night.
A big thank you to Rob Barty for passing on his extensive experience as a tennis parent and the great stories of Ash and her journey.
